A short bio
As a Master’s student in Computational Science at the University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit, Tycho was already deeply interested in biomedical research, a passion that formed during his Bachelor’s in Information Science. For his Bachelor thesis, he developed a cross-lagged panel network to analyze how depression symptoms impacted cardiovascular diseases over time. This work allowed him to combine computational modeling, statistical analysis and network theory in a mental health context. Building on this foundation, as well as a close relative developing Alzheimer, Tycho decided early on in the Master's that he wanted to do his thesis related to delirium and/or Alzheimer. Delirium and Alzheimer's are complex neurodegenerative conditions that pose significant challenges in treatment. Together with Radboudumc Nijmegen and Queen's University Hospital Belfast, Tycho is now working on using a system dynamics model to see which factors are important for the recovery of a delirium patient. Here, the goal of this model is to help healthcare professionals to better access care and for patients to reduce their hospital stay. After this Tycho wants to pursue a PhD in topics related to creating models in the health sector.
