A short bio
Shivam Kumar is a Ph.D. candidate in the Computational Science Lab at the University of Amsterdam, where he is engaged in the field of multiscale spatiotemporal modeling. Shivam completed his bachelor’s and master's degrees in physics at IISER Tirupati, where he developed a strong interest in complex systems and computational biology. Currently, he is focused on the METAHEALTH project, an initiative exploring microbiome dynamics during the crucial first 1000 days of life. His research aims to unravel the complexities of the oral and gut microbiomes across micro, meso, and macro scales, leveraging advanced computational techniques. In his work, Shivam integrates multiscale modeling approaches, using tools such as network analysis and data science, to gain insights into microbiome dynamics across different biological scales. His broader research interests include computational biology, systems modeling, and the intersection of biology and data science. Shivam’s interdisciplinary expertise in Physics, complex networks, and biological systems is complemented by notable experience with the 2021 IISER Tirupati iGEM team, where he contributed to mathematical modeling and the project’s wiki development, focused on a synthetic biology-based contraceptive. This experience solidified his passion for applying computational models to real-world biological challenges. Collaborating closely with researchers across disciplines, Shivam is dedicated to advancing our understanding of microbiome health. Through his work, he aims to push the boundaries of computational modeling, setting new benchmarks for early-life health research.
